The Nobel Prize designing for discovery and celebration
About
The Nobel Prize is one of the most globally recognized brands in science, literature, and peace. Their digital presence needed to reflect the significance of the prizes themselves, while also serving as an entry point for people eager to engage with the laureates, upcoming events, and the cultural presence of the Nobel organization.
The challenge we set ourselves was clear:
How might we create a design system that celebrates Nobel laureates while also supporting the broader experiences of the Nobel Prize Museum and cultural events in Stockholm?
My role
I collaborated with teammates to plan and prepare a workshop in Sweden that set the direction for upcoming projects across both the Nobel Prize’s main site and the Nobel Prize Museum site. My focus was on shaping a unified design system that could flex across these properties while elevating how users engage with the content.

Approach
For the Nobel Prize main site, we focused on readiness for Nobel Prize announcement week — a moment of global attention. We designed new pathways to immerse users in the lives and achievements of laureates and made it easier to find and explore prize-related content.
We then extended the design system into the Nobel Prize Museum site, adapting the experience for a different audience: visitors looking for exhibitions, events, and educational content. Here the emphasis was on clarity and accessibility, ensuring museum-goers could quickly discover what was happening next.

To support ongoing editorial needs, I also created a system of custom WordPress blocks that allowed the editorial team to combine components in flexible ways and build page layouts that went beyond standard templates. To help them adopt this system, I ran interactive workshops where we split into teams and experimented with block combinations, encouraging playful exploration and demonstrating how to craft engaging layouts.

In parallel, we ran a discovery phase for stand-alone cultural events in Stockholm, such as the Stockholm Lights Festival, looking at how digital experiences could extend the Nobel brand beyond its main properties.
Outcomes
The result was a cohesive design system that flexed across multiple contexts: from the high-visibility Nobel Prize announcement week to ongoing engagement with laureates, to museum exhibitions and cultural events. The introduction of the WordPress block system gave the editorial team new creative freedom, empowering them to create fresh, dynamic layouts without relying on designers for every page. The workshops not only equipped the team with practical skills but also built confidence in using the tools to tell stories in more compelling ways.
For me, this project reinforced the value of designing systems that serve both audiences and the teams behind the scenes — creating consistency for users while enabling flexibility and creativity for content creators.
